2023 Year in Review

At the end of 2022, I reflected on what a year of change it was...Jack's high school graduation, our new empty nester phase, and possibly more travel.  Well, little did I know that 2023 would hold even more change for us.  At the beginning of the year, we learned more about the flood lawsuits and how they could affect our property value in the future.  We decided to go ahead with our plan to look for a different house.  It's all behind us now, but those months of packing and getting our house ready to sell were BUSY.

2023 holds many good memories for us: a new house, quickly selling our old house, a vacation to Vancouver, having both kids home for parts of the summer, Michael starting a new role at work, and a trip to London for me.  A downside for the year has been Albie's health issues this fall.  I hope the new year will bring a surgery to remove his growths now that has cough has cleared up.

What will 2024 bring?  Grace will graduate from college in May and start her graduate school journey in a place yet to be determined.  Other than that, our travel plans and other activities are yet to be determined!  Lots of possibilities lay ahead.  Let's take a look at the year 2023 in review.

Christmas 2023

Christmas 2023 is in the rear view window and what a wonderful time it was!  I feel like we had a good mix of down time and activities.  Several things that were possibilities (Christmas Carol play, going to movies, zoo lights) never happened, but we were just fine with that.

We kicked things off with the kids making the long drive home from Auburn.  I was really thankful they were able to ride together and breathed a huge sigh of relief when they arrived.  I made some cupcakes to welcome them home.

Nutcracker 2023

Grace and I continued our tradition of the Nutcracker at Christmas time.  We love seeing the Houston Ballet, and this was our 19th year to attend.  I thought it was the 20th year, but I forgot that it was cancelled in 2020.  We had a really fun day in the city, just a few days before Christmas.

Christmas Cards Through the Years

See you back here next Thursday!

2023 Books

How was your reading year?  2023 found me completing 67 books.  That's about average for me.  Most of my reading was with audio books, but I did increase the number of physical books this year.  Maybe about 20% were paper books.  Let's take a look at the year 2023 in BOOKS.

December Books

This was SUCH a good reading month for me.  After a somewhat so-so year of books, this month gave me several 4 and 5 star picks to recommend to you.  What a great way to finish the year.  And be sure to come back tomorrow for my Best Books of 2023!

Family Pictures 2023

Last year, our Christmas card was a collage of pictures from the past year.  I knew I wanted to get a family picture for our 2023 card and just to remember the phase of life.  We have LOTS of family selfies from the past few years, but nothing really posed or planned.

Luckily, both Grace and Jack were home for Thanksgiving.  We have beautiful lakes in our new neighborhood, and the weather cooperated!  So at golden hour, we walked 5 minutes with our tripod and "fancy" camera to get some pictures.  Looking at the lighting on these, I probably could have taken them about 20 minutes earlier for better lighting.  But with a few adjustments on the computer, I was very pleased with our family pictures!

The photo above is my favorite.  I love that you can see our wedding rings and the lighting in the background.

Friday Favorites

TGIF!  And it's the BEST Friday since the kids are driving home from Auburn today.  You can bet I'll have a huge sigh of relief when they pull in the driveway.  We have nothing on the calendar for the weekend, and I'm just looking forward to spending time together!  Let's take a look at some favorites from this week.

Watching and Listening December 2023

I guess if I could summarize our tv watching the last few months it would be FOOTBALL.  Between LSU, Auburn and the Texans, that dominated a lot of our viewing time.  But I do have a few recommendations below...check out what we've been watching and listening to lately.
