The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hey y'all!  Welcome to another edition of the weekly Hodgepodge.  Thank you to Joyce for supplying our thought-provoking questions.

NOTE: I have switched my blog domain name back to txtanya.blogspot.com.  I did this because I had some older posts hitting huge numbers from a location in Brazil.  I know switching the name may not do anything, but it really creeped me out so we'll see what happens.  Anyway, some of the links may not work for awhile, but hopefully there won't be any big problems.  Many of my "old school" blog readers probably have been using the old blog address all along!

Let's get to the questions!

1. What was the last thing you celebrated?

We celebrated Grace passing her qualifying exam in June!  I was so happy to visit Nashville for a few days, go out for a nice dinner, and just spend time together!

Now we are getting ready to celebrate Jack's graduation from Auburn. It will be a big weekend with lots of family members all staying in an Air BnB together.  We will get to see Jack playing in the worship band on Sunday one last time.  And then make the epic (I'm thinking of the Odyssey!) journey to move his stuff back to Houston.  We are crossing our fingers that everything will fit into a large SUV and his truck!  How different from moving into the dorm with a Toyota Camry!

2 July 29th is International Day of the Tiger. Besides the wild animal itself, when you hear the word tiger what's the first  person-place-thing-whatever that comes to mind?

I instantly think of the two "tigers" in our household.  Michael is an LSU Tiger, and Jack is an Auburn Tiger.

3. The expression 'eye of the tiger' describes someone with intense focus, determination, and the drive to succeed. What area of your life are you currently bringing that kind of energy to?

I probably could use a little more focus in my life right now!  Some days finish and I wonder what exactly I accomplished.  The last thing I really put some determination into was the graduation weekend planning and Ireland trip planning.

Lately I have also been putting a lot of energy into my Bookish Texan Instagram account.

4. What was the last meal you cooked?

I whipped up a little pasta bar with some sauted chicken thighs, angel hair pasta, and the creamy lemon sauce from Holly's blog.  I need to make something using the new air fryer sometime soon!

5. Describe your July using exactly five words.

Hot weather anticipating college graduation

2004

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Lately I have been taking photos with my phone of old pictures in scrapbooks and boxes.  Then I periodically send these out on our family text.

Sometimes they are pictures from the early 2000's that I don't have on the computer.  Other times they are old family pictures from my childhood, grandparents, etc. Sometimes the pictures get a big reaction in the text, and other times it's crickets.  Either way is ok with me!

The photos above are from a little party we had after dinner one night in 2004.  Maybe Shrek 2 had just come out?  I found some printable party supplies, including a Shrek mask that fit perfectly on baby Jack's head.  We iced cookies with green icing and that was our party!  This was the time before Pinterest and trying to achieve perfection in motherhood and homelife.

Does anyone remember the magazine Family Fun?  I got so many fun ideas from that magazine!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. Ah, the pre-Pinterest, pre social media era- that was a good one and in the early 2000's, we were on the cusp of it but were blissfully unaware...Yes, I remember Family Fun! I got a lot of good ideas from the magazine as well. I've saved a few copies mostly as mementos (and why my house is stuffed to the gills but that's a separate topic...). Your Shrek activity looks so fun! I've had a huge number of hits on my blog recently and I've read that others have as well. Some people think it's AI scraping- where AI is combing through the data on people's blogs to use it??

  2. How did I miss that Jack is moving to Houston again? I need to text you today and ask you more about this. Ha! I love those old pictures, and yes to the old fashioned parties before the days of Pinterest and perfection trying to be achieved. I love the Family Fun magazine, too! Parties for my boys were always similar: a simple cake and ice cream, family and friends of mine were there with us, and after the presents were opened, we usually ended up outside. Those were the days!

  3. I loved the Family Fun magazine! I guess parents don't need magazines now, but that was a good one. Love the old pics too. I'm looking forward to hearing about your Ireland trip as that's on my list to get back to in a bigger way. Have a great day!

  13. That's so strange that your blog pageviews were so high in Brazil. I wonder if it was some sort of bot?? I cannot believe Jack is already getting ready to graduate. That just doesn't even seem possible. Time is flying.
