Today I'm sharing my travel toiletries bag! Over many years of traveling, I have come up with a system I like for packing my toiletries. In fact, I leave this bag packed all the time. Before a trip, I might need to add a few makeup items or refresh some of the supplies. But in general, I am ready to go, and it doesn't take me long to pack.
I would describe my packing style as middle of the road. I'm not a complete minimalist, bringing only the absolute essential items. I have seen some travel experts that recommend bringing the bare minimum, buying whatever else you need at your destination. That's not for me!
On the other hand, I don't take full size products. Sometimes that means I change my routine a little to accommodate various sample sized products that I have. I also don't pack items like shampoo or soap, since I will use what the hotel offers.
Isn't this a fun print on my travel toiletries bag? I got this at Target a few years ago. This folding, hanging style is my absolute favorite. I have tried switching to a zipper bag several times, but always go back to this. A few things I like about it: it hangs up, I can see everything, it keeps things organized, and it has waterproof sections. You can find similar products at: Target here and here OR Amazon here and here.
Here's a look inside. After I took this picture, I actually had to remove the liquids to put them in a ziploc bag. I just hate that rule! On this trip, I will be actually carrying the suitcase on, so I won't be able to leave the toiletries bag intact for security.
The general organization is: first aid at the top, various grooming items in the middle, and make-up in the bottom compartment.
I pulled out most of the items to show you what I bring along on a trip. In the photo above:
- Antibiotic ointment - you never know when someone will have a cut or blister
- Toothpaste and toothbrush
- Moisturizer - this time it's a sample from Clinique, along with a facial oil from L'Occitane
- Hairspray
- Band Aids - lots and lots of band aids
- Nail and cuticle clippers, nail files too
- Advil, Benadryl, and Imodium
- Sewing kit, scissors, and safety pins
- Small hair brush
Here's a look at the typical make up selections in the bottom compartment.
- Vaseline - great for moisturizing or soothing skin irritations
- Magnifying mirror - a must for my eyes
- Lip stick and lip gloss - these are both samples from a beauty box
- Eye brow pencil - I've tried many but always go back to this one from Maybelline
- Eye liner - Justine recommended this Rimmel waterproof liner and I've used it ever since
- Eye shadow and one of my favorite mascaras
- A sample size of a foundation (It Cosmetics CC Cream)
- A sample size of perfume (this time it's Jo Malone)
- Not pictured - my favorite powder foundation from Cover Girl
I hope you enjoyed this peak into my travel bag! Maybe you picked up an idea for packing your own toiletries bag? Here are a few more things I do to get ready for a trip.
This zipper pouch from Thirty One is my absolute favorite way to carry travel documents. I know that everything is accessible on my phone, but I still like to print out all my boarding passes, travel info, attractions tickets, and reservation info. I just slide it all into this flat bag, along with a travel book. And it keeps everything together.
I always pack a selection of zip loc bags in all sizes. They always come in handy for something. I also pack a kitchen trash bag to use for a laundry bag. When I come home, I just dump the contents of the bag into the washing machine (sorting the whites out as I go.)
What travel plans do you have for the rest of 2018?
Do you have any packing tips for me?
